Strategic Plan
Murphys Creek Theatre does not need to become bigger. We need to become stronger.
Our 2026–2028 Strategic Plan is not a scale-up plan. It is a deepening plan. One focused on strengthening what already makes MCT distinct: professional artistry, bold new voices, pay-what-you-can access, and meaningful connection with our community.
As a small-town professional theatre in the Sierra foothills, we believe exceptional, transformative theatre should not be limited to major cities or those who can afford high ticket prices. Our strategic plan outlines how we will build a stronger, more sustainable future for Murphys Creek Theatre while staying rooted in our mission and values.
Our Vision
To be the best small-town professional theatre that transforms lives and society for the better.
Our Mission
Professional theatre for everyone—breaking barriers with transformative stories, bold new voices, and pay-what-you-can access.
Our Focus for 2026–2028
Over the next three years, Murphys Creek Theatre is focused on four strategic priorities:
Financial Sustainability
To sustain professional wages, artistic excellence, and equitable access, we are working to build a broader, more reliable base of contributed support through individual giving, grants, sponsorships, and long-term philanthropy.
Audience & Community Engagement
We are committed to expanding our regional reach, deepening relationships with patrons and partners, and engaging more young people and under-reached communities so that MCT continues to grow as an essential cultural home.
Organizational Capacity
We are strengthening the people, systems, governance, and physical infrastructure that support our work, including staff and volunteer capacity, internal systems, board leadership, and long-term stewardship of the Black Bart Playhouse.
Artistic Excellence & Creative Infrastructure
We are investing in the artistic identity that sets MCT apart: bold programming, new play development, thoughtful production, and creative infrastructure that supports work which is emotionally resonant, artistically brave, and deeply felt.
A Disciplined Approach to Growth
This plan is rooted in clarity and sustainability. It explicitly protects Murphys Creek Theatre from growing beyond our capacity. We are not interested in growth for growth’s sake. We are interested in building permanence, strengthening what matters most, and ensuring that professional theatre for everyone can thrive here for the long term.
