Now Casting: Eureka Day
By Jonathan Spector
Directed by Todd Thomas
Murphys Creek Theatre is casting actors for Eureka Day, a sharp, contemporary comedy by Jonathan Spector.
About the Play
Set at a progressive private elementary school in Berkeley, California, Eureka Day follows a group of well-meaning board members whose deep commitment to consensus is tested when a public health crisis forces them to confront science, belief, privilege, and community responsibility. The play is fast-paced, funny, and incisive, examining how good intentions can collide with uncomfortable realities.

Roles Available
CARINA
Early 40s. Black or biracial.
A natural joiner who grew up in the Foreign Service, attending eight schools before high school graduation. Skilled at entering new environments, reading social dynamics, and putting others at ease. Her wife, a Berkeley native, wanted to return home, prompting their move from the East Coast nine months ago. Carina isn’t sure she loves Berkeley but is committed to making it work. She has spent her career in nonprofit work and is deeply familiar with boardroom culture and well-intentioned liberal spaces. Mother of Victor.
MEIKO
Mid-30s. Biracial Japanese/White (describes herself as Hapa).
A lifelong Berkeley resident with a wry sense of humor. Educated at UC Berkeley and never interested in leaving. A talented landscape architect who feels mildly unfulfilled by her work. After ending a long, complicated relationship, she chose to become a single mother. Her own mother was a major co-parent early on. She’s considering whether she wants another child and whether she has the emotional bandwidth to do it alone again. Mother of Olivia.
